ANCILLARY SERVICES Services Provided All of the physicians at Dubuque Internal Medicine have been formally trained in Internal Medicine while some have received additional specialty training. Internal Medicine physicians are trained specifically for the care of complex medical problems in adults. The names and background information of all the physicians in our office are located under the doctors tab on the left. Special Services Laboratory For your convenience and to minimize your costs, we have a well-equipped on-site laboratory, staffed with skillfully trained personnel. Our lab is Clinical Laboratories Improvement Act (CLIA) certified. Radiology Our radiology
department is well equipped to provide quality service. Our mammographic
suite is certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American
College of Radiology (ACR), and currently all of our radiologic technologists
performing mammograms are American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
(ARRT) certified in mammography. Mammography is done by appointment only. Physicians that have received Board
Certification in Radiology provide the interpretation of our x-rays. We also offer bone densitometry (DEXA scanner) to
aid
in the diagnosis of osteoporosis. All of our radiologic technologists
that perform bone density testing are certified by the International Society
for Clinical Dialysis Dubuque Internal Medicine, P.C. operates a dialysis unit near our building. Satellite dialysis units are located in Manchester, Iowa; Guttenberg, Iowa; and Platteville, Wisconsin. Dialysis services include: o Predialysis education o Center hemodialysis o Peritoneal dialysis, training and back-up o Acute hemodialysis at both Dubuque hospitals o Plasmapheresis The dialysis units are organized under the name Tri-State Dialysis. Dr. John Whalen is the medical director of Tri-State Dialysis and Dr. David M. Ringold is the Associate Medical Director. The Dubuque dialysis unit is open Monday through Saturday from 8AM-5 PM. The staff of Tri-State Dialysis can be reached at (563) 589-4033 (Dubuque unit); (563) 927-7370 (Manchester unit); (563) 252-2551 (Guttenberg unit) or (608)-348-5064 (Platteville, WI unit). Flexible Sigmoidoscopy This test is considered an acceptable test for the early detection of colon cancer. However, most physicians now recommend a colonoscopy (an examination of the entire colon)as the preferred screening test for colon cancer. Nevertheless, the colonoscopy is more costly than a flexible sigmoidoscopy and sometimes, insurance will not pay for the colonoscopy done solely for screening purposes, so a flexible sigmoidoscopy is an acceptable alternative under these circumstances. It is also helpful in the diagnosis and management of a number of other gastrointestinal problems. A number of physicians at Dubuque Internal Medicine are skilled in performing this procedure. Cardiology Testing Electrocardiography (EKG) testing is available when requested by a physician. An exercise treadmill is also available in the office for direct monitoring of your heart's response to exercise. All of our physicians are skilled in monitoring this test. Twenty-four-hour blood pressure monitors, 24-hour cardiac holter monitoring (which records the heart rhythm continuously over a 24-hour period) and cardiac-event monitors are also available. Dubuque Internal Medicine also has a certified ultrasonographer to perform echocardiography and stress echocardiography. See the pamphlet section for more information about these procedures. Pulmonary Function Testing Pulmonary function equipment is available for the detection and monitoring of problems with the respiratory system.
