INTERNAL MEDICINE
DOCTORS FOR ADULTS

Doctors of Internal Medicine (also known as Internists) are primary care physicians who focus on diagnosing and treating adults. At least three of their seven or more years of medical school and postgraduate training are dedicated to learning how to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases primarily affecting adults. Some internists will treat adolescents as young as twelve years of age--check with your doctor. Internists are trained to deal with whatever problem the patient brings, no matter how simple or complex, including:

  • diseases of the heart and blood vessels
  • cancer
  • diabetes
  • digestive diseases
  • hormonal disorders
  • infections
  • kidney diseases
  • respiratory disorders
  • allergies
  • blood diseases
  • arthritis
  • mental health

In addition to general internists, Dubuque Internal Medicine has physicians who have additional training in a subspecialty. Our subspecialties include cardiology (heart), oncology (cancer), gastroenterology (digestive system), pulmonology (lungs), nephrology (kidneys), dermatology (disorders of the skin), endocrinology (diabetes and other glandular disorders), and infectious diseases.

Internists provide care for the whole patient, including wellness (disease prevention and the promotion of health), from adolescence to the elderly.

You can be confident that your doctor at Dubuque Internal Medicine can provide the quality care you need in today’s complex world--for life.
